2 Perugia with Medieval Gardens
Perugia’s historic heart has remained remarkably intact since the Middle Ages. The city rises like a crown atop its hill, offering a striking silhouette visible from afar. Rich in cultural layers, it houses treasures from every era, including medieval alleyways, Renaissance palaces, and modern artistic touches. A guided stroll through the city reveals the intricate tapestry of its past, where each piazza, archway, and fountain tells a story. The medieval gardens provide a serene retreat amid the urban landscape, blending history, nature, and breathtaking views over the Umbrian hills.

3 Spoleto and Marmore Waterfalls
Spoleto perches on the hill of Sant’Elia, at the foot of the evergreen Monteluco, in the fertile Spoletino Valley. Renowned for its architectural treasures spanning multiple eras, the city frequently serves as a stage for major cultural events. Within the medieval historic centre, vestiges of Roman times remain: the ancient forum, the Roman theatre, the Basilica of San Salvatore, and the Romanesque Church of S. Ansano. Among the city’s many celebrated monuments, the three-arched Roman Bridge built from travertine blocks and the 2nd-century amphitheatre stand out.
The Marmore Waterfall, one of Italy’s most famous and among Europe’s highest, is set within the Nera River Regional Park. Its beauty can be admired from two distinct viewpoints: the upper Belvedere, at the edge of the village, offers a dramatic view of the first cascade, while the lower Belvedere provides a panoramic perspective of the waterfall in all its majesty. Marked trails within the park allow for a variety of perspectives, revealing how water has sculpted the landscape over millennia. For those fascinated by subterranean wonders, the park also includes caves and grottoes formed by the flowing waters through the ages.

4 Assisi with Bosco di San Francesco and Lavandeto di Assisi
Assisi, the birthplace of Saint Francis, enchants with its seamless blend of art and spirituality. Optional visits to the Basilica of Saint Francis, with Giotto’s celebrated fresco cycles, and the churches of Saint Clare and Saint Rufino, reveal the city’s rich artistic heritage (entrances at additional cost). The “Bosco di San Francesco” offers an immersive experience of the harmonious relationship between humanity and nature that Saint Francis shared with the world. The walk through the forest allows reflection amid ancient trees and serene surroundings, with a recommended donation of €4 per person supporting environmental activities. In the afternoon, the Lavandeto di Assisi, a lavender farm and garden near the town, provides a sensory journey amid vibrant fields of lavender, particularly breathtaking from late June to early July when the plants are in full bloom. Visitors can stroll along paths weaving through the fragrant rows, learn about traditional cultivation and uses of lavender in aromatherapy, cooking, and cosmetics, and enjoy the serene, photogenic landscape. The Lavandeto combines nature, education, and relaxation, offering a memorable encounter with one of Umbria’s most emblematic crops.
