Itinerary
1. Arrival
2. Lake Garda and Shrine of Our Lady of the Crown
Visit the Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona, dramatically nestled into the cliffs of Mount Baldo. Legend holds that the shrine was miraculously transported from Rhodes by angelic intervention after the island fell to the Turks in 1522.
3. Lake Iseo & River Mincio: Santuario B.V. Maria delle Grazie
Begin the day at Lake Iseo, where you can explore the charming medieval lanes of Iseo’s historic district. Continue to the River Mincio near Mantua to visit the Sanctuary of Beata Vergine Maria delle Grazie. Its unassuming exterior hides a richly adorned interior that leaves visitors speechless.
4. Transfer to Biella with stop B.V. di Caravaggio and Certosa di Pavia
Stop at the grand Sanctuary of Our Lady of Caravaggio, the site of a Marian apparition in 1432. Then visit the ornate Certosa di Pavia, one of Lombardy’s most impressive religious monuments, still home to Carthusian monks.
5. Milan - Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Last Supper
Santa Maria delle Grazie, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a remarkable church and Dominican convent in Milan. It is home to Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece The Last Supper, located in the convent’s historic refectory (tickets available upon request). Milan, the vibrant capital of Lombardy, also impresses with its majestic Gothic cathedral and the world-famous La Scala opera house, offering visitors a rich blend of art, architecture, and culture.
6. Santuario di Oropa and Sacra di San Michele
Visit the Sanctuary of Oropa, famed for its Black Madonna, then continue to the spectacular Sacra di San Michele, perched on a mountain ridge. This Benedictine abbey inspired Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose.
7. Lake Orta with Sacro Monte d’Orta and Lake Maggiore with Santa Caterina del Sasso
Sacro Monte di Orta is a scenic devotional complex atop San Nicola Hill on Lake Orta’s western shore. Part of the Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Santa Caterina del Sasso is a Dominican monastery dramatically built into a cliff above Lake Maggiore near Leggiuno, offering one of the most breathtaking views in the region.
