2 The island of Ischia
Transfer to Pozzuoli for a ferry to Ischia. Guided tour of the island including a visit to the small picturesque town of Sant’ Angelo, a wonderful example of an Ischian fishing village with its pastel-coloured houses and brightly painted boats.

3 Vesuvius and transfer to Tropea – hotel change
Exploration of stunning Mt Vesuvius, which dominates the Bay of Naples and has so shaped its history. After a 20-minute uphill walk from the coach park to the crater, visitors are rewarded with dramatic views into the caldera and across the bay to Naples and the islands of the Gulf. Transfer to Calabria for dinner and overnight.

4 Reggio Calabria and transfer to Lipari – hotel change
Guided tour of Reggio di Calabria, the largest town in Calabria, located in the toe of Italy’s boot, just across the Straits of Messina from Sicily. Crossing of the straits to Messina and on to Milazzo to board the hour-long ferry to Lipari.

5 Lipari and boat excursion to see Stromboli by night
Morning tour of the small town of Lipari, exploring its charming old town, ancient acropolis, and archaeological museum (admission not included). This is followed by a minibus tour of the island, with stops at various viewpoints to take in the stunning views. Afternoon boat ride to the Island of Stromboli, where after dark the fiery eruptions of the active volcano can be observed. Return by boat to Lipari in the late evening, including a dish of pasta served on board.

6 Boat excursion to Vulcano, return to Sicily and on to Taormina - hotel change
Short ferry ride to the island of Vulcano, where the Gran Cratere and its characteristic sulphurous vents form a striking landscape. The route circles the crater and continues towards the Valle dei Mostri, where the lava formations resemble mystical creatures. After the walk, return to Lipari before continuing on to the Sicilian mainland and a coach transfer to the Taormina area.

7 Etna and Taormina
This morning is dedicated to iconic Mt. Etna, Europe’s tallest active volcano. The tour reaches approx. 1,900 m and continues on foot to the Silvestri Crater to admire the lava flows from the 1983 and 2001 eruptions. Weather permitting, a cable-car or jeep ride to 3,000 m is available at an additional cost. Return to the coast to visit Taormina, a picturesque town overlooking two grand sweeping bays framed by rocks, gardens, and the deep blue seas. The Greco-Roman Theatre, the town’s most famous attraction, offers exceptional photo opportunities (admission not included).
