6-day itinerary

1 Arrival

2 Sestri Levante, hiking to Punta Manara and pesto cooking class
The group arrives in Sestri Levante by train and begins the day wandering through the charming streets of this coastal village perched on a sun-drenched peninsula. A scenic hike through fragrant Mediterranean macchia leads to the Punta Manara headland, revealing breathtaking views over the Gulf of Tigullio. The tour continues via Riva Trigoso and Monte Castello back to Sestri Levante, where travelers enjoy a hands-on pesto cooking class. Using fresh local ingredients—basil, olive oil, pine nuts, and pecorino—they craft authentic Ligurian pesto in a traditional marble mortar. The day concludes with a delicious pasta lunch paired with local white wine, and each traveler takes home a bottled portion as a fragrant memory of Liguria. The group then returns to the hotel by train.

Effective walking time: 3 hours
Vertical height difference: 350m
Degree of difficulty: easy to moderate

3. San Fruttuoso Bay, Portofino Nature Park and Santa Margherita
Travelers reach the picturesque fishing village of Camogli by train, collecting picnic boxes with freshly baked focaccia from a traditional bakery. A gentle stroll through narrow alleyways leads to a boat transfer to the secluded Bay of San Fruttuoso. From here, the hike meanders to glamorous Portofino, where luxurious yachts mingle with colorful fishing boats along the sparkling harbor. The day concludes in the elegant town of Santa Margherita, before the group returns to the hotel by train, carrying memories of Liguria’s scenic coastline.

Hiking time: approx 2.5 / 3 hours
Vertical height difference: approx. 450m
Degree of difficulty: moderate

4 The Cinque Terre
The adventure begins in Levanto, where travelers meet the hiking guide and take the train to Monterosso, the starting point of a panoramic hike to Vernazza. Trails wind through lush olive groves and terraced vineyards, with spectacular views of the sparkling Ligurian Sea at every turn. Corniglia, the most tranquil of the five villages, offers charming narrow streets and colorful houses set against peaceful vistas. After a leisurely break to soak in the atmosphere, the group returns to the hotel by train.

Hiking time: approx 4 hours
Vertical height difference: around 550m
Degree of difficulty: moderate to demanding

This hike involves mostly narrow, rocky paths and stairways. Sure-footedness and a strong head for heights are required. It is possible to shorten the hike by taking the train from Monterosso to Vernazza.

5 The Sanctuary of Montallegro and Chiavari
From Rapallo, travelers explore the vibrant local market and pick up picnic boxes from a neighborhood grocer. A cable car ride ascends to the Sanctuary of Montallegro at 600 meters, with sweeping views over the gulf and coastline. The hike down winds through fragrant forests and along hilltop ridges, offering panoramic vistas along the way. From Chiavari, the group returns to the hotel by train.
