1 Arrival in Sicily

2 Mount Etna
• Today we discover Europe’s highest active volcano and its numerous craters
• From the Belvedere viewpoint (1.472 m) hike through orchards, chestnut groves
  and the volcanic desert to Monte Zoccolaro
• Silvestri craters (1.900 m) with their impressive lava flows dating back to 1983 and 2001
• The day ends with a wine tasting with typical products on the famous Etna Wine Road

3 Taormina and Monte Venere
• Panoramic hike along scenic paths up Monte Venere
• From the medieval village of Castelmola, perched precariously on the mountain-
  top above Taormina, we hike through the unspoiled Mediterranean scrub with
  breath-taking views from the Straits of Messina to Syracuse and Mount Etna, all of
  which are framed by the captivating turquoise sea
• In the afternoon visit chic Taormina for a taste of Sicilian dolce vita

4 Valley of the Temples and Kolymbetra Gardens
• Drive along the southern coast to the archaeological site of the Valley of the Tem-
ples, one of the most outstanding examples of Ancient Greek art and architecture
• Hike through the Archaeological Park and picnic in the Kolymbetra Gardens, an
open-air museum surrounded by the scent of almonds and citrus trees
• Late in the afternoon we arrive at our hotel in the charming fishing village of
Castellammare del Golfo

5 Zingaro Nature Reserve and Scopello
• Hike along narrow paths through the characteristic dwarf palm groves and past
  wonderful bathing bays in the Zingaro Nature Reserve, Sicily’s first protected area
• In the afternoon discover the narrow streets of the pretty seaside hamlet of
  Scopello, and taste the local savoury speciality, pane cunzato

6 Monte Cofano, Erice and Marsala Wine
• Nature hike on majestic Monte Cofano, which rises up impressively 659 m from
  the sea and is home to beautiful variegated vegetation
• The next highlight is Erice, located 750m above Trapani, a small jewel surrounded
  by a mighty medieval wall and with breath-taking views of the Trapani Salt Flats
  and the Egadi Islands below
• Tasting of traditional almond biscuits and Marsala wine in an old fashioned pastry shop

7 Urban trekking in Palermo and Cefalù
• Discover Palermo with its Byzantine mosaics, Arabesque domes and frescoed cupolas
• Experience freshly cooked authentic street food on Palermo’s local market
• In the afternoon continue to medieval Cefalù with its gigantic Norman cathedral and
  monumental fortress
