Day 5: Sorrento - Positano - Amalfi - Ravello - Sorrento
Today we will drive along the stunning Amalfi coast passing by Positano, characterized by narrow alleys and steep staircases. The author John Steinbeck rightly described Positano as “the only vertical place in the world”. In Amalfi we will stop for lunch (not included). Amalfi is so narrow and steep that the small alleyways of the town consist of stairways. We will see the Cathedral, the Bell Tower
and the “Paradise Cloister”. The highlight of our day will be Ravello. The little village
is located higher up on the coast with breathtaking views of the Coast. We will
visit the magnificent Villa Rufolo with its garden, bell tower and courtyard.

This morning we will get a closer look at one of the few volcanos that are still active,
Mount Vesuvius. By bus we will reach Mt. Vesuvius and we will stop at the base of the crater. Visit of the crater (30- min walk each way to the crater). Stop for a light lunch in a restaurant at the foot of the volcano. We will then continue back north to Montecassino. The Abbey was founded in 529 by Saint Benedict. However, Montecassino became famous during WWII. The Abbey made up one section of the 161-kilometre (100-mile) Gustav Line, a German defensive line designed to hold the Allied troops from advancing any further into Italy.
