You will not fail to be enchanted by the charm of the ancient maritime republic of Pisa. You will visit the impressive cathedral, the baptistery, and of course the world-famous leaning tower (outside visits). Then we continue to Lucca, whose medieval city walls are still very well preserved. Lucca is also known as the city of 100 churches, and is the birthplace of Puccini. It offers interesting sights, such as the Cathedral of San Martino. (admission extra). Your tour guide will bring you to the impressive monuments of this city, which is considered as an open-air museum of Tuscany.

Day 4: Orvieto and travel to Rome (about 330 km)
Today you will experience the unique city of Orvieto, situated on the steep Fella plateau, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. The impressive city built on Tuffa rock impresses as it rises in the distance. The Cathedral is the most important building in Orvieto and dominates the entire cityscape (admission extra). The imposing building shows the splendid history of the city. Orvieto has a long tradition in ceramic crafts and woodworking. A leisurely shopping trip here will give you the chance to pick up a souvenir or two.

Day 5: Ancient and Classical Rome
Your visit to the Eternal City allows you to travel back to ancient times, and your tour begins with a wonderful overview of the Roman Forum. The iconic Coliseum follow (we will view from the outside), before passing imperial forts en route to the Piazza Venezia at the foot of the Capitol. Afterwards you will experience the "Classical Rome" par excellence. Passing the famous Trevi Fountain you make your way to the Spanish Steps before continuing on through the famous streets around today's political centre of Italy to the Pantheon, the famous ancient Temple, converted by Emperor Hadrian into a Church. The tour ends at the Piazza Navona, central Rome’s elegant showcase square. Even today, the mansions and churches around the square are suited to the limitations of an ancient stadium, on which it lies which was originally constructed by the Emperor Domitian.

Day 6: Christian Rome and on to the Peninsula of Sorrento (about 260 km)
Visit St. Peter's, the world's largest Basilica which dominates the Vatican City. It houses priceless works like Michelangelo’s Pietà, Arnolfo di Cambio’s much loved 13th century bronze statue of St Peter, the masterpieces of Bernini and the Papal Altar above St. Peter's grave. As a grand finale you may take the optional walk up to St. Peter’s dome offering breathtaking views of Rome.

Day 7: Naples & Pompeii (about 95 km)
A visit to the capital city of Campania is a very special experience. The ancient and contemporary come together effortlessly under the distinctive profile of the volcano of Vesuvius. Our city guide will show us the most beautiful sights of this lively city.
In the afternoon we visit the ancient preserved ruins of Pompeii which was buried by the powerful eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD (Admission extra). The scale of the ruins and the idyllic landscape give you a great insight into life under the Romans. During the visit you can admire the Forum and the Temples of Zeus and Apollo, the antique shops and the brothel, rich with erotic paintings.

Day 8: Sorrento for free or optional Capri
Sorrento is the most well-known resort on the Sorrentine coast and famous for its wonderful location on steep cliffs. Sorrento’s most famous son, the poet Torquato Tasso, was born here in 1544 and his name is given to the Central Square in the heart of the town. The beautiful old town has many wonderful shops where you can buy famous Vietri ceramics and the delicious locally-produced lemon “limoncello” liqueur.

Day 9: Amalfi Coast by local bus (about 100 km)
Today a local coach will take you along one of the most beautiful coastal roads of the world. It winds over Positano to Amalfi along steep rock faces and offers wonderful views to the deep blue sea below. Amalfi is so narrow and steep that it can only be reached on foot. The main attractions are the Cathedral, the Campanile and the "Paradise Cloister" (admission extra). On the way we will stop for a tasting of limoncello, which is a particular speciality of the area.

Day 10: Assisi, Perugia and journey to Chianciano (about 520 km)
The city centre of Perugia has hardly changed since the Middle Ages. The houses are can be seen from afar, resembling a crown on the hilltop. It contains a rich treasure of sights through the ages, which you will discover on a city tour with a local guide. Continuing on to Assisi, the birthplace of Saint Francis, whose artwork and churches enchant and inspire visitors in equal measure. You will visit the Basilica with its excellent frescoes by Giotto, the Town Square and the Churches of St Clara and St Ruffino.

Day 11: Bologna and onward to Lido di Jesolo (about 420 km)
Bologna has one of the most beautiful and best preserved old towns in Europe, with many towers dating back to the Middle Ages. There are around 40 km of arcades connecting the extensive city centre with its pedestrian zones, squares, churches and palaces. Enjoy a guided tour in this old university town known for its two leaning Asinelli and Garisenda Towers, the Cathedral of San Petronio and the Neptune Fountain. After this visit we continue on for another 190 km until we reach Lido di Jesolo for our final two nights of the tour.
