Lake Maggiore - Lake Orta - Lake Como - Lake Garda

Day 1: Arrival on Lake Maggiore
Transfer from Milan Airport to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Lake Orta
We start cycling in the direction of Gravellona, where we face our first climb of the day until we reach the village of Corte Cerro. Continuing uphill, we arrive in Omegna and proceed to Cesara, passing through some charming villages. Along the opposite side of the magnificent Lake Orta it will be an easy ride on a mostly flat path. We may take our time to admire one of the most charming villages of Italy and the spectacular views of the lake. The island of San Giulio lies right in front, as well as the Madonna del Sasso Sanctuary and the impressive Alpine mountains. Return to the hotel.

Day 3: Lake Maggiore and Switzerland
Leaving Verbania we are headed north towards Switzerland. We will meet the beautiful Castles of Cannero, located on two small islands close to the shore. After Cannobio we will reach the Suisse border (a passport will be required) and continue on the same road along the lake. From Locarno, we will keep on riding close to the lake on a cycle path that will take us to the Magadino plaine, the northernmost point of our itinerary. The way becomes more challenging now, as we enter the town of Porto Valtravaglia. We proceed to the village of Laveno Mombello, from where we will take the ferry to cross the lake on our way back to the hotel.

Day 4: Lake Como: from Como to Lecco
By motor coach we reach Como and take Via Torno. Taking breaks occasionally, we will be able to admire Torno with its enchanting historical center and curious rocks transported by the ancient glaciers, or Nesso, famous for the natural gorge, made of two rivers right at the entrance of the village. We will then continue with some ups and downs until we reach the northernmost point of our journey, the world famous town of Bellagio. Soak in the Mediterranean atmosphere and beautiful views! South east bound, we will encounter smaller but equally charming villages, before we arrive in Malgrate, the so called Venice of the lake thanks to its very rich architecture made of palaces and an impressive historical center.

Day 5: Adda – The River of Energy
Today we cycle along the River Adda passing through the Nature Reserve until we reach Crespi. The water of the river is a source of natural energy thanks to the hydroelectric power-plant situated along the shores. The open air museum of Leonardo da Vinci, between Trezzo and Brivio, offers an insight on the history of the use of natural resources. The industrial settlement at Crespi d’Adda, built in 1878, is today a UNESCO World Heritage site. The core of Crespi D’Adda is the cotton spinning and weaving mill.

Day 6: Lake Garda - Borghetto, Valeggio and Mantova
Today we travel along the cycling way of the Nature Park of the river Mincio which leads to Mantova. Along the way we detour onto the surrounding hills to visit two small charming towns. Borghetto, a small picturesque settlement of houses and windmills, and close by Valeggio sul Mincio, a small village with many interesting monuments and a Scaligeri Castle. Before we continue along the river until we reach Mantova, we will enjoy delicious tortellinis, a famous specialty of this region. Mantova is the former princely residence of the Gonzaga family and is surrounded by a romantic lake scenery.Return to the hotel by bike.

Day 7: Lake Garda and its vineyards
We leave our hotel and cycle on a country-road to Peschiera, situated on the shore of beautiful Lake Garda. We then make our way to the gentle hills on the eastern side of the lake where the famous Bardolino wine is produced. En route we will stop to taste the regional wines. Passing through vineyards and small villages we will reach Garda, one of the most picturesque towns on the lake. After a relaxing break overlooking the bay we will take a last ride along the lake-side cycling path to reach the medieval village of Lazise.
Back to the hotel by bike.
