We continue on to the vineyards of Prosecco Superiore DOCG, which stretch from Conegliano and Valdobbiadene in the north of the Marca Trevigiana which was the former name of the Province of Treviso. Day 4: Transfer to the Venetian coast with visit to the romantic lagoon city Venice
- Today we leave the foothills of the Dolomites behind us and head off to the Venetian coast, making a stop in Venice, one of the most romantic cities in the world
- A guided tour will unveil the secrets of this stunning city, founded on 117 different islands linked by 150 canals and around 400 bridges
- Afternoon at leisure to discover the hidden corners of this gem, before continuing to our hotel in Lido di Jesolo
Today we say goodbye to the foothills of the Dolomites and head off to visit the romantic lagoon city of Venice. On our guided tour we will discover the Venice of the Venetians along narrow streets, away from the commotion of the tourists, a city which is full of fascination even in its most hidden corners. Looking out from the Rialto Bridge, the Canale Grande can be admired in its full glory. St. Mark’s Basilica dominates the iconic Piazza San Marco and is one of the most visited churches in the world: a famous example of the Byzantine architecture, with its wonderful golden mosaics (entrance charge applies).
Time at leisure in the afternoon to marvel at the splendours of this unique city before continuing to our hotel in Lido di Jesolo.
Day 5: Local delights and traditions along the River Piave
- Excursion along the ancient Venetian coastal road to the reclaimed area of Eraclea
- Through an area rich in history and traditions, passing along canals, water drainage engines and fields we gain an insight into the processes of land reclamation.
- Visit to one of the last few remaining rice farms in the area, where we will enjoy a tasty selection of typical produce in a unique setting.
Departing directly from the hotel we reach Cortellazzo, a small fishing village with a harbour. We then leave here and set off along the ancient Venetian coastal road bound for the area of reclaimed land of Eraclea. We cross the River Piave, which formed the natural Italian defensive line during the First World War, via the traditional ‘‘barche bridge“. An area rich in history and long traditions awaits us as we make our way along canals and past typical little thatch-roofed houses offering hidden corners and oases of quiet, giving the impression that time has stood still here. Water drainage engines and the resulting fields which have been reclaimed from the sea bear witness to the mastery of drainage and land reclamation of the past. We then visit one of the few rice farms still in operation in the area where a snack of tasty locally grown produce is prepared for us.
