Day 1 | Arrive at your hotel.
Day 2 | Pienza and Montepulciano
All lovers of the Renaissance have heard of Pienza. Sheep cheese production has a centuries-old tradition in Pienza. The sheep graze on especially aromatic grass and herbs in the meadows surrounding the town, which gives the resulting milk and cheese a particularly fine herbal flavour. The Pecorino cheese tastes just as good fresh as well as aged, with white, red or black rind. The fresh variety, ‘tenero’ is a rather soft cheese. As the cheese ripens, it hardens and the flavour becomes more intense and piquant. Having sampled the produce we make our way to Montepulciano, home to the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which will make the hearts of all wine connoisseurs beat faster. Here you will savour the different wines accompanied by some regional specialities.
Day 3 |Cortona & Arezzo
Lively Cortona is our destination today, a town characterised by its well-preserved mediaeval character. Steep, cobblestone paths lead through the narrow alleyways in the historic centre, and open onto the larger squares ‘Piazza della Repubblica’ and ‘Piazza Signorelli’, where you will see daily life taking place. Shops offer gastronomic delicacies and handicrafts, while street cafés invite one to linger. We then make our way to visit charming Arezzo. A city tour gives you a unique insight into the history of this city. You will see the Romanesque church of Santa Maria della Pieve with its exotic Romanesque arcaded facade adorned with carved columns, each individually decorated.
Day 4 | Florence
The artistic and cultural hub of Florence is a must for all travellers to Tuscany. The Cathedral of Florence dominates the cityscape and together with the Campanile and Baptistery forms one of the most magnificent works of art on earth. The Palazzo Vecchio, the Town Hall of Florence, encapsulates three separate eras in history, from Roman through Medieval and on to the Renaissance. Centuries of art, history and Civic power are embodied in this building. A tour guide will accompany you on this visit to the interesting sights of the historic district on an official city tour. Afterwards there will be enough time to admire the jewellery shops on the Ponte Vecchio or to enjoy an Italian espresso.
Day 5 | Siena
A tour guide will take you on a tour of this impressive city of art. The highlight is the Piazza del Campo, the seashell-shaped square, where the famous horse race, the ‘Palio’ takes place each year. Your guide will explain the fascinating history of the contest which pitches rival boroughs against each other for the honour of victory in this annual spectacle. In the afternoon you will have the time to do some last minute souvenirs for family and friends for when you depart for home the next day.
Day 6 | After having your last breakfast you will make your way back home.
