Day 1 | Arrival
Day 2 | “Most beautiful garden in Italy” in Alassio & Albenga
Outing to one of the most popular beach resorts of the ‘Palm Riviera’, to Alassio. The old palaces of the noble families are still standing in the historic district. The wall of Alassio, called ‘Muretto’, is famous for the signatures of famous personalities from sports and show business who have immortalised themselves on the tiles. Before the next stop, you will visit the Gardens of Villa della Pergola. Voted to be the most beautiful garden in Italy. Albenga is a city situated on the Gulf of Genoa on the Italian Riviera in the Province of Savona in Liguria. Albenga has the nickname of city of a hundred spires and the majority of the mediaeval city quarter has been preserved.
Day 3 | Castelvecchio & Imperia
Castelvecchio means ”old castle” and it is one of the most beautiful hamlets of Val Neva, spreading out around the hilltop castle. This borgo is characterised by old stone houses, tuff gates, roof terraces, arches, and fortress-houses connected by arches. There are many farmsteads scattered in this territory, proof of the hard rural life in the area, and many serve traditional meals to visiting tourists too.
An Olive Oil tasting will be next on the itinerary today in the city of Imperia. Each year in November, the town celebrates extra virgin olive oil. With over 200 stands set up for tastings from all day, visitors can enjoy various local specialities featuring the star ingredient. The “Capital of Olive Oil” waits to share its “green gold” and enthusiasm for the role it plays in its local economy and culture.
Day 4 | Monaco & Menton
Outing to Menton, the famous lemon city. Located right on the coast with a backdrop of mountains, Menton offers a wonderful view. In the afternoon, you will reach the city of the rich and beautiful. The Principality of Monaco rests atop a rock peak above the sea, dominated by the Prince’s Palace and the cathedral. Later you will have the chance to visit a local Fragonard where you can see iconic fragrances being made.
Day 5 | Sanremo & Ventimiglia
Sanremo is the oldest winter climatic spa on this coast, and is famous for its casino, among other things. In the afternoon you will travel into the Ligurian hinterland, there the quiet of the landscape begins: olive groves and vineyards are dotted with small towns. Thomas Hanbury designed a garden in 1889 that has no equal along the entire Italian Riviera. The garden offers a lively and colourful display, filled with both tropical vegetation and native plant species. Olive trees characterise the scenery between Genoa and Ventimiglia. The most commonly grown type of olive is the Taggiasca olive named after the town of Taggia, in which the Benedictine monks began the organised cultivation of olives in the Ligurian valleys in the 11th century.
