Day 1: Arrival
Day 2: Sigurtà Garden Park and Heller Garden
Today’s first visit is André Heller Garden in Gardone, a hundred-year-old plant paradise, which is said to have magical powers: the arboretum, in whose shadows bamboo forests and ferns evoke nature spirits. Botanists rave about the 2,000 species of plants in this park, art lovers about the harmony between nature and the work of man. Next, Sigurtà Park in Valeggio sul Mincio. On a parcel of land, grows an expansive park with picturesque ponds, romantic water lily pools, sumptuous flowers and trees. Admire this idyllic place during an extended walk or by electric car.
Day 3: The Gardens of Quistini Castle and Villa Visconti Borreomeo Litta - change of hotels
Driving to the Franciacorta wine area visit the gardens of Quistini castle: a 16th century residence, unique and filled of history. Particularly famous for its enchanting and romantic park, which offers more than 500 variety of roses, hidden green corners and even a secret hydrangea garden. Enjoy the scents of these lush labyrinth, and admire its splendid sculptures. Then reach the stunning Villa Visconti Borromeo Litta : it is mostly known for its monumental Nymphaeum, a series of symmetrically located rooms where the art collection of the family was displayed to welcome their guests. This place of delight was beloved by the most important personalities of the European Renaissance and celebrated by visitors like Stendhal.
Day 4: Varenna: the Gardens of Villa Monastero, Villa Cipressi and Bellagio
Reach Varenna and visit Villa Monastero: the former Cistercian monastery later became an aristocratic residence. Wander in its magnificent and exotic park, among oleanders, agaves and palm trees. Right next to V. Monastero rises Villa Cipressi: built between 15th and 19th century, this villa has a complex of buildings and gardens with a long, unique history. Afterwards board the boat to Bellagio (optional visit to the gardens of Villa Melzi).
Day 5: Lake Maggiore: the Gardens of Isola Madre and Isola Bella
From Stresa reach the islands by boat. First stop is Isola Bella, the most famous of the Borromean islands, with its magnificent baroque palace and home to one of the most refined creations of Italian Garden Art. Continue to Isola Madre and its wonderful botanical gardens (one of the oldest in Italy) where we can admire the glycine, as well as many exotic flowers and colorful birds. Our final stop is Isola dei Pescatori, the fisherman’s island, where a small community still supports itself mainly through fishing.
