Experience two colourful events and chase away the winter blues between 10-26 February 2023

Some 145 tonnes of citrus fruit are used to create the artistic and fun procession floats and displays in the annual Lemon Festival. Combine this with the fragrant and colourful flowers of the Nice Carnival and you’ll see how the mild climate of Cote’d’Azur presents the ideal antidote to bleak Winter days back home.

Day 1
Arrive at your hotel on Friday late afternoon at the Riviera of Flowers in time for Dinner

Day 2 (Saturday): The Nice Carnival is your destination for today. As you make the short trip across the border to take part in the Flower Parade. Enjoy the spectacle of the brightly costumed models on their floats, which are covered in flowers as they throw their flowers over the crowds lining the route on the famous Promenade des Anglais.

Day 3 (Sunday): Enjoy Menton’s fragrant Lemon Festival and Procession. The French seaside town of Menton is famous for annual Citrus Festival which is today’s highlight. Admire the colourful displays of fruits which are used to create fantastic works of art as they parade along the central Promenade and in the town’s parks. Enjoy the spectacular displays in the Jardin Biovès, before returning back to your hotel for dinner.

Day 4: Following a busy weekend you have a day free to explore your surrounding area on the Riviera of Flowers. You can go for a relaxing and rejuvenating walk on the shore line or go explore the pastel colored towns that’s known for their exotic plants and flowers. For lunch you can have the opportunity to go for a typical Ligurian pesto pasta or a pasta dish that is famous for its olive leaf shape usually made with mushroom or meat sauce…..

Day 5 Today is given over to the discovery of chic San Remo with its wide tree-lined promenade before heading inland to explore the Ligurian hinterland. Your tour guide will explain all the sights and history of the town and its long association with tourism which goes back to the 1700s. Heading inland, you will visit historic Dolceaqua with its medieval bridge passing stunning fields of cloves and orchids on the way. We will also make a visit to an oil mill to learn all about this staple ingredients in Italian cuisine, as olive groves have been cultivated here since Benedictine Monks introduced them in the 12th Century. A visit to a vineyard rounds off the day where you will learn about the process from vine to bottle. After which you will have a wine tasting of the winery’s products.

Day 6 As you pack your suitcases and reminisce about your trip, you will enjoy a buffet breakfast before departing from the hotel to return back home.

 

Whilst we can not move the dates of the events themselves, you may opt to change arrival days which will amend the order of the excursions accordingly, details on request

 

  • 5 nights Half Board with daily buffet breakfasts in a 3-4* hotel located on the Rivera of Flowers
  • Set menu on arrival day – menu choices on other days (drinks extra)
  • Full day English speaking guides for trips to Nice, Menton and San Remo and the Ligurian Hinterland

PLEASE NOTE: The exact dates & prices 2023 for the Carnival in Nice and the Lemon Festival in Menton are not yet fixed and will probably not be announced until mid-2022. As soon as we receive them, we will prompty get in touch with you. The info/prices below are referred to the current year 2022, for next year they can be subject to change/increase.
When planning your trip, please note that the parade in Nice usually takes place on a Saturday and the parade in Menton on a Sunday. The carnival in Nice/Menton is not the same as the traditional carnival.

Please note: the grandstand seats can normally only be requested from October onwards.
We then usually get an option until the end of November/beginning of December.
Tickets must be prepaid on the option expiry date. No refunds possible.
Standing room is unlimited and can be ordered at short notice.

Menton tickets are issued electronically and can be printed out (if sent by email). Alternatively, it is possible to have the printed tickets sent to you by post. Supplement applied.
