2 Amalfi Coast

  • Today’s excursion takes you along one of the most picturesque coastal roads in the world. The road snakes its way to Positano via the Amalfi coast hugging steep sided cliffs providing stunning and memorable views down to the azure blue seas at every turn.

3 Naples and Pompeii

  • A visit to the lively and chaotic city of Naples, capital of the province of Campania is a particular experience. Naples lies at the foot of the towering volcano, Vesuvius, which dominates the scenery on one side with islands extending from the gorgeous Bay of Naples like sculptures on the other. The area is home to world famous excavations at Pompeii (Entrance extra). A walk through the impressive ruins will give you an excellent insight into day to day life amongst the Ancient Romans.

4 The Cave dwellings of Matera "European City of Culture 2019" - hotel change

  • The sight of the so called Sassi of Matera will astonish first time visitors. This is one of the most unique and spectacular cities in Italy, if not the world. The city is a series of caves, some dating back to prehistoric times, cut into the limestone face teetering on a ravine. Dwellings, monasteries and Churches were all constructed in this way and the stone takes on pastel shades in gentle light.

5 Alberobello, Martina Franca und Ostuni

  • This morning we undertake a visit to the town of Alberobello and in particular to see its famous "Trulli". These unique circular shepherd and famers dwellings with their stunning white washed walls and conical black tiled roofs present a stunning townscape.
  • We then visit an oil mill where we will learn all manner of interesting facts about the tasty Apulian olive oil. This afternoon we arrive at Ostuni, the so called White Town of Apulia

6 Lecce & Otranto

  • Lecce offers the best examples of baroque architecture in Apulia. The striking buildings and the undoubted beauty of the towns churches underline its reputation as the ‘‘Florence of the South“.
  • We reach Otranto in the afternoon, where our visit will provide you with a broad history lesson of the Mediterranean. Here you will find the terraced gardens which were described by the Turks as the Gardens of Eden, and can see the original story told in the colourful mosaics of the Cathedral.

7 Apulia to the area of Naples - hotel change

  • Today we leave the ‘‘Heel of Italy“ and make our way across the south of the country to the Neapolitan area for your final overnight of the tour.
